Position Overview: The Lead Pastor has general superintendence of the church as the chief administrative officer. The Lead Pastor will be called from among the duly ordained Original Free Will Baptist ministers who are approved by the Conference of which the church is a member, upon such terms as shall be mutually agreeable. The Lead Pastor reports to the Deacon Ministry Team. The Lead Pastor position is a full-time, salaried position. The Lead Pastor shall not resign or be terminated without a ninety-day notice, unless agreed to by both parties.

 

Essential Job Duties: Faithfully preach the Word and be an example to the flock; win the lost to Jesus Christ; minister to the special needs of the church members and attendees and through prayer and study render effective preaching and pastoral ministry; visit church members, especially the sick and shut-in; promote the spiritual interest of the church; promote all denominational institutions, enterprises, and programs, advance the cause of Christ among the people; lead the pastoral ministries of the church; work with the Deacon Ministry Team, church staff, and the church’s many ministries, committees, and teams to lead the church towards achieving its mission; serve with the church staff and Deacon Ministry Team in caring for the church members and others in the community as needed; provide for the welfare and oversight of the church subject to the guidance and direction of the Deacon Ministry Team and church members; administer the Ordinances of the Gospel; serve as moderator of the business meetings of the church; attend Original Free Will Baptist conferences and conventions; rightfully control and have special charge of the use of pulpit and not invite persons into it who are not representative of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; not speak despairingly of the church or its ministry and uphold the Ministerial Code of Ethics prescribed by the Original Free Will Baptist Denomination and the Central Conference; in consultation with the Deacon Ministry Team, secure a speaker for revivals and homecomings held at the church; inform the chairperson of the Deacon Ministry Team and the ministerial staff if a situation arises which requires the pastor to leave the community immediately for an indefinite period of time; schedule and conduct regular staff meetings; maintain a weekly log of service and activities for the church, Original Free Will Baptist Denomination, and Central Conference; supervise the church staff and assign duties to the staff as needed; serve in an ex-officio position on all ministries, committees, and teams; be present for all special services, including, but not limited to Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Homecoming, and Loyalty Sunday; be present for Sunday morning services throughout the year with the exception of pre-approved leave by the Deacon Ministry Team and unforeseen situations; be available as needed for weddings and funerals of church members; and perform other duties as assigned and which pertain to the position of Lead Pastor.

 

Personal Characteristics: Represent the church in a Christ-like manner at all times; demonstrate strong leadership in all areas of the church; demonstrate a heart for evangelism and a desire to see people come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ; demonstrate an attitude of genuine caring for the church and its members, staff, and guests; maintain a positive attitude at all times and remain poised under pressure; maintain a servant’s heart regarding the job description and duties; demonstrate a cooperative team spirit with church members, staff, and volunteers; maintain dress and appearance appropriate for the business and ministry of the church; be a model citizen and a person of high moral integrity in the home and community; and maintain confidentiality with all matters of the church.

Minimum Qualifications: Be a Christian; be an ordained minister in good standing with the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists; abide by the Ministerial Code of Ethics; adhere to all guidelines set forth in The Articles of Faith; and hold a minimum Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent thereof. A minimum of two years of experience in the pastorate is preferred.

 

Compensation: Salary, housing allowance, and benefits are commensurate with credentials, experience, and responsibilities. Salary, housing allowance, and benefits are reviewed and approved annually by the Deacon Ministry Team.

 

Special Notes: A criminal background check, sex offender registry search, credit report, and social media review are required on all potential hires. All staff members are expected/required to join DCC. An annual evaluation will be conducted before July by the Deacon Ministry Team. Continuing education is required annually. Unless otherwise directed, continuing education may be completed in-person or virtually through classes, conferences, group studies, etc.
